Stanley A. Rice is a distinguished science educator, scientific researcher, and writer, currently retired Professor of Biological Sciences from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. A native of Oklahoma, he holds a B.A. in Environmental Biology from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Rice focused his scientific research primarily on the ecology and genetics of the rare seaside alder (Alnus maritima), a species with a highly limited, disjunct range. He is also a passionate advocate for evolution and ecology. He described himself as a “missionary” for these subjects from the heartland of rural Oklahoma. In addition to his academic and writing work, he is active on YouTube, promoting ecology, environmental stewardship and evolution in short, fun, accessible videos. He also has two blogs, one about evolution and science, and the other about the contact between science and religion. He now lives with his wife, daughter, son-in law, and two grandchildren in France.
